Privacy policy.
What we collect through this website, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. Written in plain language.
1. Who we are
This website is run by Kim Rossi, Obstacles to Opportunities ("we," "our," or "us"), 49 Lake Street, St. Catharines, Ontario. Kim Rossi is the person responsible for protecting your personal information. You can reach her at kimrossioto@gmail.com or 289.969.8342.
2. What we collect and when
When you book a discovery call. The contact form asks for your first and last name, email address, organization (optional) and a message about what you need. Our form provider also records a few technical details with each submission: your IP address, your browser type and the page you sent it from.
When you sign up for Notes & Nuggets. The newsletter form asks for your first name and email address, and the same technical details are recorded.
When you email or call us. We receive whatever you choose to send.
When you browse the site. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It collects the pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search or another website), your device and browser type, screen size, language, approximate location (city and country) and how long you stay. It also tells us when someone sends a form or taps our email address or phone number, without telling us who. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
When any page loads. Like every website, the services that deliver this site process your IP address and basic browser details to send you the pages, fonts and code. These are our host (Netlify), Google Fonts and the jsDelivr content network.
We do not ask for sensitive information, and we do not take payments through this website.
3. Why we use it
- To reply to your inquiry and set up your free discovery call
- To send you Notes & Nuggets, only if you signed up for it
- To understand which pages and contact options are useful, so we can improve the site
- To keep the site and our forms secure, including filtering spam
- To meet our legal obligations
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not run advertising or retargeting pixels on this website.
4. Your consent and your choices
By sending a form, you agree to us using your details to respond to you. Signing up for Notes & Nuggets is your express consent to receive it. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribe requests within 10 business days. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing or by contacting us.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
This site sets only the following:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another so visits can be counted | Up to about 13 months |
_ga_57ZVMJM1ZG | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your current visit | Up to about 13 months |
kr-intro (session storage) | This website | Remembers that you have seen the opening animation, so it does not replay on every page | Until you close the tab, and it never leaves your browser |
Depending on Google's settings for our account, Google may also use analytics information under its own privacy policy, for example to provide general reports about visitor interests. You can find out how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
To opt out of Google Analytics, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, browse privately, or install Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site works fully without analytics cookies.
6. Who helps us run this website
We use a small number of service providers. They handle your information only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosts the website, receives form submissions and screens them for spam | United States |
| Google Analytics, Google Fonts, and the Gmail and Google Workspace inboxes where your messages and form notifications arrive | United States and other countries | |
| jsDelivr | Delivers the code libraries that power the site's animation | Global network |
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our legal rights.
7. Where your information is stored
Our service providers store and process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country, which may allow authorities to access it. If you live in Quebec, please note that your information may be communicated outside Quebec.
8. How long we keep it
- Form submissions and emails: only as long as we need them to respond to you and to manage our working relationship, then we delete them.
- Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
- Google Analytics: for the retention period set in our account, which is no longer than 14 months.
9. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete it. Email kimrossioto@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca. Quebec residents can also contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec at cai.gouv.qc.ca.
10. Children
This website is for organizations and the people who run them. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 14. If you believe a child has sent us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. How we protect your information
The whole site runs over a secure, encrypted connection (HTTPS), including our forms. We use reputable service providers and limit access to your information to the people who need it. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, but we work to protect what you share with us.
12. If something goes wrong
If a breach of our safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and to the Commission d'accès à l'information where Quebec residents are affected, as the law requires.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our website or practices change, and post the new version here with an updated date.
